How did Squallie Greenthumb get his nickname?

“When I was fifteen I used to play a video game called Final Fantasy Eight. I was always a character called Squall. He was silent and reclusive, stuck inside his own head—the other characters were always trying to get him to express himself. That was how I was at that time. My friends were always saying, ‘Why don’t you say something?’ So that’s how I got ‘Squall’.

“Years later, I was at a house party in South Boston. It was a time when people were always putting my name in songs—Squall. My ringtone then was ‘Dr. Greenthumb’ by Cypress Hill. My phone went off during the party. Everybody was shitfaced and they sang, ‘Hello, my name is Squallie Greenthumb’ over my ringtone. So I’ve been Squallie Greenthumb ever since.”
